The Changing of Seasons was inspired by the gentle rustling of leaves as they fell around me in a golden spiral at the start of October 2025. The sweet smell of damp earth surrounded me as my shoes sank into muddy grass. I looked up at the trees, captivated in the stillness of the moment and watched out the afternoon light set the oranges and reds ablaze. Much of the world was still holding on to the greens of late summer. I knew that the stubbornness of the land would cave within a brief few days and give rise to the sharp cold of winter.
I imagined that I was a dragon standing in a clearing. My ancient eyes had seen the pattern of the changing seasons thousands of times over, but the quick set of rot and decay in fall reminded me of my mortality. Watching the leaves spiral around each other in shimmering gold, I recalled the days of past splendor and beauty that came with spring and summer and I grieved their loss. Time is the one resource we will never get back, no matter how much we scream and cry and beg the gods for it. Yet there is comfort in knowing that we too will be wrapped in the embrace of the earth; the soil a warm blanket under which we will continue to gaze at the stars.
